Research of podcasts

I mostly listen to sit down podcasts, where the hosts (and maybe a guest) sit down and discuss whatever the topic is about. As a whole, my most listened to genre is sports, with podcasts such as WTF1 and Pitstop frequenting my Spotify. However, I also listen to relationship podcasts (TMI with Cam & Chloe and Saving Grace) and comedy (The Wittering Whitehalls).

Some podcasts feature advertisements during the show as a way to earn some money - as most audio/visual pieces do. Companies such as Hello Fresh are well known for sponsoring YouTubers as a way to get their brand identity out there. Content creators, if the video does well, can get anywhere from $0.035 to $0.15 per view on videos and $18 to $25 per 1000 listeners on podcasts.

This is a clip from Daniel Ricciardos Coach ON OUR SOFA! Hilarious stories with Michael Italiano #f1 by Pitstop. If I was to do a video style podcast, this would be my inspiration.

Script for Interview

Toby: Hey viewers, welcome to a La Vie interview. I’m joined by Lily. Lily, what are your favourite artist and art styles?

Anna: So, my favourite is definitely Frida Kahlo, she’s very personal in her work and I like the fact that she put herself in there and her personal things like her pets, and the use of colour, the way I saw it, it just made me really happy and it was such a nice thing to see because of all the bright colours, so it was like, a really joyous feeling.

Toby: When did you start in art?

Anna: I started from a really young age. I was close with my dad when I was little so we connected through art and he was teaching me from a young age as well, so when I was growing up we would help each other out with our art and we connected ever since.

Toby: One concern we have today is that children are having anxiety, so does art help with any of that?

Anna: Personally I think it does. Obviously when I was younger I went through a lot of hard times and with art I could express how I was really feeling, and just let loose. I do think it is quite a good escape for people to use so that they can help with letting it all out if they don’t want to go out and speak to people. It’s just a really good way to let it all out I think.

Toby: That’s all you’re getting today reader! If you want more on Lily, you’ll have to come back later for the full story!

Research of Contents Pages

Kerrang’s contents page reflects the genre of the magazine - rather chaotic but also set out in a clear way. The use of clear headings and numbers allows readers to understand and find the stories they are interested in. The use of the main picture of Bring Me The Horizon and the fact that it is page 12 shows readers that it’s part of the main stories of the magazines. Moreover, the editor has a column for her thoughts which is a prominent feature of magazine contents.

This Kerrang contents has the same layout, showing that the editors know that it’s a good choice. The use of a few bright colours draws the readers eyes to them, highlighting the important parts and the different categories.
